Medical Termination of Pregnancy

Medical abortion is a method of ending an early pregnancy (up to 9 weeks or 63 days gestation) using medication instead of surgery. It involves a two-step process:

1. First Medication (Mifepristone): This blocks the hormone progesterone, which is essential for maintaining pregnancy.

2. Second Medication (Misoprostol): Taken 24–48 hours later, it causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy tissue.

This procedure is highly effective (up to 98% success rate) and generally safe, with most people experiencing effects similar to a miscarriage—cramping and bleeding—at home.
